I feel lucky to enjoy such a varied, interesting, and fulfilling career. After completing a Master of Arts degree at the University of Victoria and a certificate in non-profit management, my employment journey as an employee and manager has taken me to a wide array of work environments, from private to public sector, to education, and now back into the private sector. While I’ve worked in both union and non-union workplaces with a diverse range of people and a wide variety of challenges and opportunities, the constant thread throughout my career has been the people focus.
My passion is people! During my career, I’ve had the privilege of working in both Canada and Hong Kong with individuals from all walks of life, including those at the highest levels of academia, those with developmental disabilities, and people all along the socio-economic continuum. What stands out to me is how much we have in common, especially our need to feel included, to feel valued, and to derive a sense of satisfaction from our contribution.
Human resources consulting lets me dig into the challenges that teams and managers face at work, assess and solve problems, design systems and processes, and create clarity through effective policies and procedures. Engaged and engaging workplaces are such an important contributing factor to our happiness and our sense of self, and I am rewarded by the privilege of seeing people grow, contribute successfully, and find meaning in their work.
When not working, I am often out walking with my dog and other two and four-legged friends, or relaxing and connecting with nature while growing food in my garden (a favourite hobby of mine, and a delicious one to boot!). I also enjoy contributing to our community while broadening my experience through volunteer work for community-based non-profit organizations.
