Leslie Liggett, CPHR
As Senior People and Culture Partner, Leslie Liggett delivers comprehensive HR services with warmth, insight and a high level of trust. From providing strategic-level services to helping clients manage change and navigate tricky terminations, Leslie helps solve complex people issues. She also mentors teams of HR practitioners, including our own team here at Engaged.
Known for her exceptional ability to coach and facilitate conversations to help people resolve conflicts, Leslie brings a reassuring and knowledgeable presence to every engagement. She grasps nuance quickly and earns client confidence early on, with significant strength in facilitating an atmosphere of calm so people can work through escalated emotions and come around to a productive conversation. Clear and action-oriented, Leslie taps the source of a client’s issue through her insightful questions. This straightforward approach spares the wheel-spinning and instead moves straight to problem-solving. Her experience spans private, not-for-profit and federally regulated small- to medium-sized organizations.
Leslie brings a solid base of knowledge around medical leaves and mental health leaves, and is an expert in complex performance issues that intertwine with mental health or addiction problems.
My many years of experience in management and HR mean I can relate well to the challenges faced by other leaders. This allows me to quickly grasp the nuances of the problem and how it manifests in the context of their particular business. When I reflect back my understanding of their concerns, clients are visibly relieved. Trust builds very quickly so I can effectively advise them and walk alongside them as they implement.
Leslie joined our Engaged team in 2016, following many years of senior leadership experience in the not-for-profit and education sectors, and a career as a consultant. Leslie holds a Master of Arts and her CHPR designation, as well as certificates in non-profit sector management and conflict coaching. She has served as Vice-President of the Hong Kong–Canada Business Association, and as a board member for Volunteer Victoria.
Most of all, Leslie loves making a difference in the people side of business, watching leaders grow in competence and confidence in moving engagement forward in positive ways. When she’s not at work, she loves hiking with her dog and friends (and their dogs, usually), foraging for mushrooms and spending as much time as she can with her two toddler grandchildren.
