Lydia Amaral, CPHR

Director of Operations

In her role as Director of Operations, Lydia manages, coaches and mentors a top-tier team of human resources professionals and support staff. She oversees the department that looks after HR projects for both our own and our clients’ organizations, our on-demand HR services for clients, and is responsible for the smooth running of our internal operations.

Known for her attention to detail, Lydia is a wizard of project management, systems and processes. She has managed and supported teams across a diverse set of industries, including tech, consulting, not-for-profit, employment services, and oil and gas. Lydia loves getting to know our clients and puts her heart into the work of building relationships that are deeply rooted in trust. She embraces the opportunity that HR gives her to touch others’ lives, and to help them create and sustain positive organizational cultures.

Meticulous and organized by nature, Lydia creates the structure to get things done as efficiently as possible while still maintaining a human touch. A solutions-focused listener, she takes the time to see all angles of a situation before proposing a recommendation.

I enjoy creating a space free of judgment and focused on finding a path—whether it’s a path out of whatever situation someone might be in or a path for my team’s career growth. As everyone’s favourite daring leader, Brené Brown, says: ‘Do the next right thing’

Lydia started her HR-focused career in training in 2007. She returned to school full-time in 2010 to earn her Bachelor of Business Administration, completing two semesters of co-op placements to deepen and enrich her experience. She obtained her CPHR in 2017. Her career has spanned all facets of human resources in BC and interprovincially, including project and program management, HR management and leading people, coaching, benefits, global mobility/immigration, engagement, onboarding, performance management, training, compensation and HR administration. Lydia is Engaged’s first “boomerang” employee, having joined us in 2017 as an engagement associate. In 2019, she left to travel the world, returning to the fold in 2021 as a manager.

In her time outside work, Lydia is an avid fan of historical fiction, biography and memoir. She also is a seasoned traveller, having visited over 40 countries so far. A former Calgarian, Lydia is now grateful to call Vancouver Island home. Walking along the ocean with tea in her hand and family by her side is her happy place.
