Michelle Gossman, CPHR
People and Culture Partner Michelle Gossman supports our client organizations with all things HR, including the administration of systems and processes, coaching and developing leadership teams, and strategic planning for our client partners.
With an approachable, relaxed air, Michelle is known for her coaching and her ability to steer difficult conversations. She is gifted in being able to see all sides of a situation by taking a step back and noticing the shape and elements of the bigger picture. Instead of focusing on controlling the symptoms of a given problem, she approaches the issue like a puzzle, looking for the actual causes of the challenge and working to find the solution from there. Michelle has worked for large private and multi-unit organizations as well as not-for-profits in the hospitality, gaming, sport, construction and automotive sectors.
I know that I don’t know everything, so I work to bring great minds together. I work hard to take any ego out of what I do, and strive to do the best for our clients and their teams by leveraging the expertise and knowledge of other people to create something amazing.
Michelle creates a sense of connectedness with her clients, finding the humour that can help make any HR situation seem less daunting. She sets a great example of our core value of connectedness, going out of her way to build relationships with clients and teammates by getting to know people on a personal level.
Michelle found her way to HR after a mountain biking injury in Whistler, where she was working as a restaurant server and manager. For a few months she was unable to work—and had a lot of time to think. She realized what she loved most about her job in hospitality was the people leadership and training. Recognizing the synchrony with human resources, she obtained her Bachelor of Business Administration in HR management, then returned to restaurants, but this time in HR. Over time she obtained her CPHR and expanded into working with different kinds of organizations, which gave her the depth and breadth that she brings to Engaged today. She joined our team in 2019.
When she’s not working, Michelle can be found hiking, paddleboarding, knitting, reading, watching hockey, or chauffeuring her daughter here and there. If she was to write her own TV show, it’d be a fantasy-based sociological thriller or a character comedy, merging her “fantasy geek” love of Marvel and D&D with her fascination of what makes people tick.
