Rachel Joyce, CPHR
Rachel is a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) with a passion for helping organizations create workplaces where people can thrive. Drawing on experience across the full employee lifecycle, she brings a practical, people-focused approach to human resources and a deep understanding of how strong HR practices support organizational success.
Rachel holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Queen’s University and a Bookkeeping Diploma from Algonquin College. Her diverse educational background, combined with extensive hands-on HR experience, equips her to navigate both the strategic and operational sides of people management.
A true HR generalist, Rachel has intentionally built a career that spans nearly every aspect of the profession. Her expertise includes recruitment, onboarding, performance management, compensation, employee relations, payroll, accommodation and leave management, workplace investigations, leadership development, HRIS implementation, and organizational design. She has worked in both unionized and non-unionized environments and has supported organizations ranging from start-ups and non-profits to large seasonal employers and complex multi-site operations.
Throughout her career, Rachel has developed a reputation for balancing big-picture thinking with practical execution. While she enjoys all aspects of HR, she is particularly energized by developing people and helping organizations understand how to unlock the potential of their workforce. She believes effective HR goes beyond solving immediate challenges. It is about understanding root causes, aligning people strategies with business needs, and creating conditions where employees can succeed.
Rachel’s philosophy is grounded in a simple belief: work matters because it connects people to one another and to something larger than themselves. She has seen first-hand how meaningful work, supportive leadership, and a sense of belonging can transform employee engagement, even in roles that are physically demanding or often overlooked. For Rachel, one of the greatest privileges of working in HR is helping people see the value of what they contribute and fostering workplaces where that contribution is recognized and appreciated.
If she could offer employers just five words of advice, they would be: Make work something people choose.
Outside of work, Rachel enjoys exploring questions about what motivates people and how they learn. Those interests show up in many parts of her life, whether she is raising her young son, training dogs for competitive agility, or helping organizations build stronger workplaces. When she finds time to unplug, you’ll likely find her researching new places to explore, planning future travel adventures, or seeking out quiet spaces in nature to recharge and reflect.
