What I love most about working in HR is the constant learning opportunities. You never know what new situation or challenge the day will bring, but each one is a chance to make a positive impact. For the last 9 years, I have had the opportunity to work and learn in different industries, managing a range of HR functions for large workforces including full cycle recruitment and onboarding, training and development, performance management, occupational health and safety, and employee and labour relations.
With a Bachelor’s Degree in English Honours from the University of Victoria, I went back to school in 2016 to obtain a Human Resources Management Certificate from Simon Fraser University, and in 2018 received designations as Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) and Senior Certified Professional with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-SCP).
During my 7 years in HR Manager and Assistant Director roles, I have supported leadership teams to implement effective people management strategies, coaching them through performance challenges, workplace conflicts, and compliance with legislation and policies. My approach is one of honesty, positivity, and understanding, working with employees and managers to see the big picture and find win-win solutions for an engaged workplace culture.
Outside of work, I like to challenge myself through long distance running and backcountry hiking. I also volunteer with CPHR BC & Yukon and on the board of directors for a non-profit. When it’s time to relax, you can usually find me camping, paddle boarding or cycling on our amazing trail network here in Victoria!
